why young living

Quality matters! Young Living creates products for a purpose, never for a profit. Most essential oils on the market today are only suitable for cosmetics and perfumes.  These companies are simply brokers- they buy their oils from various sources around the world and bottle it themselves.  They don’t have a clue the history of the plants, soil or seeds used to create that oil.

The reason Young Livings’ oils are so different is their unmatched commitment to producing a pure, unadulterated oil. Because essential oils are not regulated, Young Living developed their own guidelines – we call it our Seed to Seal standard. Gary Young wanted to make sure that we were taking care of the land that we are farming. Young Living’s devotion to creating a highly therapeutic product means they’ve invested in their own farms, care for and nurture their own plants, trees, and shrubs, and finally distill, test, and bottle the oils that arrive on your doorstep. We never use synthetic chemicals on our plants, on the soil, or during the distillation process. This unmatched commitment to producing a pure, unadulterated oil is what makes Young Living so different.

If an insect tries to invade our crops, our farmers and scientists find a natural predator for that insect or plant a cover crop to deter the insect, rather than spray it with synthetic chemicals. Young Living actually goes above and beyond what is required to be labeled as “organic”.

As the harvest approaches, we start testing each hour of the day to find the best time to harvest. We harvest at peak times – if conditions change during the harvest, they stop until peak conditions return. We save the best seeds from the strongest plants to start the process all over again.

If at any point in the production process something doesn’t meet their standards, they get rid of it and start again.   This means that sometimes our favorite oils go out of stock.  While it may be frustrating, we know this means we aren’t getting our oils from a company who is out for a quick buck and will wait until the batch is perfect and up to standards.

At convention, they told us that just the week before, Young Living rejected 7,000 kilos of Peppermint because it did not meet our standards. Their state of the art machinery detected one part per billion of mercury in the batch, and sent it right back. For reference, that’s equivalent to one drop in an Olympic-sized swimming pool

The cost to our company was NOT a factor in the decision. The fact that it had the potential to throw a very crucial and popular oil out of stock did NOT factor into the decision. If it doesn’t meet our standards, it doesn’t get sold. Period.

I wonder what company bought that rejected oil?

Young Living has three types of farms: the farms that we own, partner farms, and certified Seed to Seal farms. All of the farms that we work with follow the same strict guidelines to ensure that you receive only the highest quality, pure, therapeutic grade essential oils. Our oils are distilled on site, without chemicals – everything is either steam distilled or cold pressed. If a batch doesn’t meet our standards, the product is not bottled and sold as a YL product. All of these factors make a huge difference in quality and effectiveness. You will not find another essential oil company that invests in their own farms, or partners with farms that are willing to live up to Young Living’s high standards.

Every step from planting to bottling is detailed and controlled. This is called Young Living’s Seed to Seal® process. And it is unmatched. Check out this website for more information on the Seed to Seal® guarantee: http://www.seedtoseal.com/en/process

I’ve seen seen this first hand at their farms in Utah, Idaho, Ecuador, France, Spain and Hawaii.  If you cannot walk onto your oil company’s farms and watch them distill their oils at their very own distilleries, then don’t use it. There’s a reason Young Living has been the world leader in essential oils for 25 years!

But Young Living is more expensive, right? You’re right, often times it is and “you get what you pay for” has never been more true. Young Living is more expensive than other brands and oils you can find at Whole Foods or on Amazon because of its therapeutic grade. An ever-growing number of marketers have jumped on the essential oils bandwagon looking for an easy way to make a lot of money. Most of these oils are cheap imitations, purchased wholesale in large quantities, diluted with synthetic additives, and rebottled before being sold to you.

That’s not okay with me. We all want the best for our families and we don’t want to “save money” short-term only to spend more long-term because we used something that didn’t do what it was supposed to or even harmed us.
Some of the other companies may claim that their oils are organic. Unfortunately, the term “organic” is not regulated by the FDA in regards to essential oils. They do not certify or grade essential oils so any oil you see making those claims is simply using the word. They did not have to do anything to earn it.
